Journey Mixed Media Tag with Tutorial

Standard

Hey there Peeps. Well I’m recovering from a little too much holiday fun and getting myself back to the workday.  I created this tag tutorial with lots of lovely chippies and some mixed medias and ribbon and flowers.

Please enjoy this tutorial I’ve created so you can create a tag just like this for yourself….

Prepare all pieces except the wood charm with a white base coat.

Begin layering on an additional base coat with gold paint, copper paint and black archival ink.

Add newspaper patterned paper to the back of the arch.

Add shading and contouring to the wings with Distress Ink.  Layer on pattern with text stamp and black ink.

Color back of arch with multiple shades of Gelatos. Blend well.

Coat remaining pieces with gold paint. Allow to dry. Add copper colored texture paint being aware of leaving some parts thick and some thin. Once dry dab sections with Steel Luxe paint.

Secure top of arch to base.

With glue secure a tattered piece of cheesecloth.

Clip Photo Reel in half and add to arch.

Sprinkle Micro Beads onto any glue still showing.

Secure wings with middles touching.

Layer on pocket watch, gears and key.

Add a variety of flowers in coordinating colors.

Finish tag with wood charm sentiment and tie off ribbon trim with twine.

Okay that’s all for me. I hope I’ve inspired you to create a mixed media tag of your own. Wishing you all a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative : ) G

Two Hearts in One Mixed Media Tag

Standard

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here to share another mixed media tag I created for a certain someone to surprise him on his weekend trip away from home.

Two Hearts in One Tag Mixed Media 1

I know you all are used to me adding big gimongus bows to my projects…but this tag really called for lots of ribbon in a variety of textures and widths and patterns. Also I wanted to reduce the bulkiness of it for packing so it’s just run through the metal eyelet and tied off with twine.

Two Hearts in One Tag Mixed Media 2

The mixed media plan for this card was to add a variety of mediums like inks and stamps and Gelatos….but keep all the colors relatively dark to minimize the contrast.

This combination of embellishments started with an altered chipboard frame then layers of hearts and tags and metal gears. That fabulous texture in the background  comes from some packaging material that came in a box of lovely treats from my BOLB Kathy Clement. A little gold paint was all that it needed to dress it up and coordinate it with the gold on the chipboard heart.

Difficult to see…but I added a bit of acrylic film strip ribbon. If you have some in your own stash…you will know it’s packaged in a fun tiny metal tin.  I attempted to take out a small length to add to this tag but it turns out to be a little like those old cans that would have a faux snake squished in that would pop out and surprise the person opening the can…..so there was acrylic ribbon just flying everywhere. I felt like the Three Stooges lol.
Okay on to that glorious ribbon combination~Black Plaid, Diagonal Stripe in Black, Black with Four Thin Stripes Sheer.

Men’s Den Nautical Map Home Decor with Crafter’s Companion

Standard

Hello my name is Ginny and I hoard frames. It has been 0 days since I hoarded a frame with the intention of rehabbing it. There are currently no 12 step programs to help me. Hahah…okay all kidding aside.  I do tend to pick up frames (and everything else) if I find a good deal on it with the intention of using it later. Sadly this has resulted in a fairly embarrassing large stash so I’m making a goal   to remake them into fabulous finished projects.  Preferably before they make an episode of The Hoarders out of me and you find me on some TLC documentary series.  This lost little unloved frame is now fabby finished out for masculine home decor item.  I’m calling it Men’s Den Nautical Map Home Decor. I think it would be great in a den….not our den of course because ours is filled with gaming computers and posters of World of Warcraft ( I live in a house of technology geeks)….but other peoples dens lol.
