Shine Brightly Shaker Card All Occasion

Standard

Hey there Peeps! Well the madness that has been our lives is starting to calm down with the second to last of our big family events now safely tucked away in our memories. It’s time to get back to creating on a somewhat normal schedule….normal for me anyway…not everyone creates at 6 in the morning or 10 at night.  I created this card last night while the boys were hiking and I’m not going to say that I’m obsessed with shaker cards….but I kinda am.

Shine Brightly Shaker All Occasion Greeting Card

One of my favorite color combinations is pink and black. It’s just so feminine especially when the paper pattern has roses.

il_570xN.1232915440_85t0

I’ve gathered a nice selection of die cut ephemera pieces and layered them up on the frame.

il_570xN.1280139787_m3t1

To help separate the busy patterns and keep the frame shaker section as the focal point I tucked in a pretty little square doily die cut.  A chipboard sentiment and pearls top off the frame.  The chevron bow has a bit of loopy twine and a pretty bling brad stacked on top.

I did mention it’s a shaker right? Look at those shimmery shiny sequins! I am swooning over all the pink.

Ribbon Organization and My Studio

Standard

Well hello there Peeps….it’s Ginny here and it’s my day to share how I organize my Really Reasonable Ribbons!  Just a fair warning….I’m a bit OCD….can’t help it….I come by it from my Momma….the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree : ) These pics were taken on a very snow stormy day in Michigan….so they are not as bright as the shop usually is : (

IMG_2978My crafting space is in the back corner of my store….I have to keep things neat and tidy most of the time….so I’ve got a pretty organized system to make things easy to put back to make room for crops and classes.  Quite a bit of my trims are in the cabinet on the right…in those stacked bins on the shelves. They are all labeled by color : ) Labels make me happy!

IMG_2958I’ve got my RRR ribbons in this large compote on the shelf. The texture is so pretty. I keep lot’s of little bits in these vintage dishes and milk glass. Tiny clothes pins, felty hearts and bits of images clipped out and ready to use.

IMG_2956Here is some pretty glitters, more dishes filled with paper pretties and washi tapes.

IMG_2965I love these little boxes with the French theme.  The little dress form was a gifty from my DH…I added a few sparkly Christmas ornaments and flowers to dress it up a bit. Behind the shelves I have some boards to hold little bits of images and some vintage button tags.

IMG_2959This shelf has my embellishment boxes, more vintage clippings and paper pads.

IMG_2937My inspiration board is a great place to display a banner we made recently in class, flowers, trinkets from my peeps, and some of my favoritest blingy jewelery.

IMG_2899I’ve hung my inspiration board above Stella my dress form. She has more bling on lol. The tower on the right holds crepe rolls, vintage mason jars full of buttons and rings for albums. There’s also a container of chapsticks and “emergency eyeliner” I’m never without eyeliner lol.

IMG_2970I added some of my favoritest pink polka dot ribbon to these canning jars and filled them with little bitty bags, glassine bags, super cute stripy straws and Middy bags stacked in back.

IMG_2921I do love all these drawers. Filled with all my flowers and doilys and tools and buttons. Yes I know I have a few labels missing….it’s on the list lol.

IMG_2924I’ve filled up this spinning rack (meant for paint) with my ribbon spools….they are super handy to reach for when I need them. I’ve got all my go-to tools in the cute pink buckets and tags are displayed in the seed containers on the shelves.

IMG_2936IMG_2922I keep all my RRR trims stored in the clear bins by color wrapped with craft paper strips held on with paper clips so I can use it and rewrap them easily. This works to keep a lot of ribbon in less space : )

IMG_2987IMG_2999IMG_3010IMG_3011IMG_3012I try to keep all my prettiest supplies out for inspiration….but like most of you I do have a space that is strictly functional….in my case I call it “the beast” A ginormous cabinet for all my stamps and inks and paper stash and other necessary items. I’m showing it to you with the doors open since Bonnie was so brave to share her box of shame lol. You should insert slasher movie music now lol

IMG_2983And here are my bins of shame lol

IMG_3014IMG_3015

Yikes…I guess I better work on those bins lol.

I hope you enjoyed your little visit in my crafty space : ) Wishing you all a happy and productive and and time to be creative : ) G

New Challenge at RRR Shabby Chic

Standard

The new challenge at Really Reasonable Ribbon is Shabby Chic. They shoulda just called it the Ginny Challenge right??? I. Am. All. About. Shabby. But you already knew that right? So what does shabby chic mean to me? Old and new. Weathered and worn. City and country. Soft dreamy colors and flowers. And above all else…it must be feminine. And textures. So here is my project…I think I hit on every one of those.

IMG_2218Just a simple little pocket….but I dressed it up in a pretty rose patterned paper and some vintage images for the tags.  I added a crepe fringe with pearly accents, a few burlap flowers for texture, and beautiful button from the stash.  I created my bow with a double layer of Wrinkle Ribbon, Ivory and Pink. I toned down the pink with a little Distress Ink so it would look old. One last button on top. I used a bit of chocolate brown in the form of a circular reinforcing dot on my tags…I think it helps to anchor all the soft colors. Now to write some sweet nothings on the tags!

Now it’s your turn to whip up something Shabby and fabulous and hop on over to Really Reasonable Ribbon to enter your project in the challenge.

If anyone needs me today..I’ll be working away like a busy little bee on kits with a nice cup of tea and my little gray girl Lily by my side. Wonder what I can find on Netflix to keep me company while I work???

Hope you all have a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative. G

Not tooo Pink Shabby Swallow Card

Standard

So while Jane and I were having our regular playing paper date yesterday I asked her if the card I was working on was “Too pink???” Jane says……” You can never have enough pink!!!” So here is my not too much pink card…

IMG_1138I created the base layers of this card with the Shabby Chic Pink Patchwork Background from Ephemera’s Vintage Garden. The Shabby Chic Swallows bird image can be found here.  I think Jane’s right…..not too pink lol.

IMG_1141I layered a natural burlap trim with pink edge with a wide pink gingham   under the vintage images, and topped them off with a nice big bow. These trims are from Really Reasonable Ribbon : )

IMG_1143More crocheted flowers here …this time I layered a large cream flower with a small pink one and topped it off with a super cute pink checkered brad. I created the flower in the center with lot’s of paint…ink….Stickles….cappuccino spray mist and glitter…then a super bedazzled center.

IMG_1145With all the layers and handcrafted flowers…this card is very dimensional….but not toooo pink : )

Don’t forget to stop in tomorrow for another project created with images from Ephemera’s Vintage Garden…..but don’t worry…it’s not pink : )

Well I’ve shoveled my way to the garage so the grown ups can get to work…the lucky kiddos did get their much wished for snow day.

I hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative. G

Mini Album Tutorial

Standard

Today is my day to share a tutorial for Really Reasonable Ribbon. I created an easy to follow process of turning simple paper lunch bags into sturdy little albums without all the complicated measuring and folding. And these great minis have pockets built right in for your pictures tags and mementos : )

First I’ll share a sneak peek at the finished album…

IMG_0974As you can see….I’ve added lot’s and lot’s of embellishments to the cover including pretty patterned papers, painted inked and Stickled chipboard, loads of flowers ( I crocheted the ivory ones myself : ) ) brads, buttons and pearls. I choose to finish off the metal rings with beautiful Cream Mesh Ribbon, Ivory Wrinkle Ribbon, and Diamond Satin Shell Gray and I think they coordinate beautifully : )

IMG_0976I couldn’t resist adding more beautiful trims to the pockets on the inside pages.

IMG_0977I added a pretty little vintage button over this faux bow of Diamond Satin Shell Gray trim and crocheted lace.

IMG_0978If one button is good…then 5 should be better right????? lol This yummy trim is Sheer Box Pleats in Ivory.

Okay….now for the tutorial….there are lot’s of pictures here…but trust me it’s super easy!

IMG_0961IMG_0963IMG_0966IMG_0968IMG_0969IMG_0970IMG_0971IMG_0972IMG_0973See…told ya it was easy : ) You’ll want to keep this tutorial handy for creating quick wedding or baby shower gifts….or make them for yourself : ) They are super sturdy after adding all the paper layers and you can tie on all your favorite Really Reasonable Ribbon Trims to add the perfect finishing touch : )

Okay that’s it for my tutorial. I hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative : )G

Quick update…..Someone brought it to my attention that I forgot to give the measurement for the coordinating paper for the pocket….ooops. The strip os 2 1/4 inches x 6 inches. : )

Valentine Card for Challenge

Standard

They’re having a super fun  challenge going on now at RRR. This time it’s Valentine’s Day/ Love & Ribbon theme.  So you know that had my name all over it.  il_570xN.414032108_fwa7I’ve been inspired by fellow DT member Misty to do a little destashing. So the paper I used here from My Mind’s Eye is from the scrap and  salvage box. The blingy hearts I bought at Target ages ago and recently rediscovered. The chipboard key and lock is from Maya Road….had them forever….but forget about them in the drawer. The pink string in the buttons is from my long abandoned cross stitch bag.

il_fullxfull.414029981_nv1iIt was 7 degree’s this morning….so I’m thinking longingly of Spring. Maybe that’s why I’ve been using so many of these sweet paper roses and other dimensional flowers lately. They match the pink Gingham ribbon perfectly! Of course it’s from Really Reasonable Ribbon. So is the pink bakers twine SWOON!

il_fullxfull.414032118_id1dHere’s the close up of that little lock and key. I tied it onto the bow with more of the twine. Someday I will have some of every color twine Bonnie has at RRR.

Are you asking yourself ” But I thought Ginny said it was a challenge????” Well here’s the best part….you can create your own awesome Valentiny project and enter the challenge at RRR. Simply click on this link and follow the easy peasy instructions. I can’t wait to see the awesome projects you create: )

Hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative! G

Merry Christmas to all……

Standard

Well the kiddos are still sleepin in and so is the Dear Husband. We are definitely going to have ourselves a white Christmas here after a lovely snowstorm yesterday. Our plans are not taking us too far from home so it should be a calm and simple day.

This little project I’m sharing I created to decorate my shop. I turned my Christmas village shabby chic : ) Lot’s of glitter and flocking and paint. And of course some beautiful trim from RRR. I had the perfect little shelf to display it and it’s got my favorite pink in the background swoon.

IMG_0534              The little trees I bleached last week look perfectly shabby with my little houses.

IMG_0537Of course the village looked like the typical set. I started out by spray painting them to neutralize the background then gave them a base coat of winter white. Next I mixed the paints I liked to tone them down and give them a vintagy look. I used several types of glitter and flocking to create the look of a Putz house. As usual the glitter was EVERYWHERE. I’m sure I even ate some with my lunch lol. I’m sparkly on the inside : )

IMG_0542In order to maintain the look I wanted…I didn’t get crazy with the details…relying on subtlety to tell a quiet story of shabby chic. This little church is the centerpiece…as it should be : ) Just a bit of silvery glitter to dress the windows was all it needed.

IMG_0535Tinsel glitter was the perfect choice for the roofs. Along with flocking  where the snow would have been.

IMG_0532I used a small picture frame with a book page as a backdrop. I’ll be on the lookout now for some other little treasures to tuck into the scenery.

IMG_0529Are you thinking to yourself that it must have taken a long time to paint around all those details? Yep it sure did lol. But since this is going to be a display I put up every year…it was worth the extra effort.

IMG_0533All of the houses have little windows so next year I’ll be adding lights to the inside.

IMG_0528

I dressed the front of the shelves with my new favorite Juliet lace in natural from Really Reasonable Ribbon.

IMG_0538All the pale colors were making it look a bit floaty. I decided to add some of the unbleached trees in to anchor the light colors.

IMG_0546The fun part of starting a new collection is not having every little bit right away…I’m looking forward to the hunt for more key pieces to add to fill in. I think I’ll be looking for some lamp posts and signage along with some characters to stage in the scene. OOHHH and also some vintage deer.

IMG_0522There’s the little tree I added garland to.

IMG_0509I’m planning to add signs to the tops of the doors here. I think this one will be Polly’s Paperie.

IMG_0518

From the side you can really get the feel of the different glitters. I just love the curve of the shelves….very girly.

Well I hope this inspires you to take a second look at some of your seasonal decor. Maybe you have outgrown the style? Why not give it a makeover. My little village was not a valuable collectable….so I wasn’t too concerned that it might not turn out like I had hoped. But it certainly did and I’m so glad I made the old new again and gave it a new life : ) Who knows…maybe I’ll leave it up year round.

Thanks to all of you who stop in to visit me in my little corner of the world. I’m so very privileged to share my creations with you all. I hope they inspire you to take the time to be creative everyday. Wishing you all a Happy, Healthy, and Blessed Christmas and New Year. I hope you have a day full of magic.

P.S. thanks for all the well wishes for our little Tinker. He is home now and on the mend : ) That is truly a gift indeed.

Vintage Valentines

Standard

I’ve been saving up my vintage image printouts just waiting to get to work on some lovely Valentines creations.

IMG_0479I topped a nice chipboard piece with this sweet little guy, and gave him a nice big chipboard frame that I painted, inked and stitched.

IMG_0479-001While I still had the glitter out for Christmas projects I thought I might bedazzle some little chipboard hearts.

IMG_0483This Pink Chevron Trim from Really Reasonable Ribbon matches the vintagy pink perfectly. A nice generous strip and poofy bow really anchor the bottom of this card : )

IMG_0488This card has lot’s of layers and is very dimensional : ) and it’s pink!!!!

That’s it for me today….I hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative. G
