Dragonfly Wishes Home Décor Stand

Standard

Hey  Peeps! Let me just tell you that I have fallen for the Pentart Metallic Wax Paste.  Not only does it add a gorgeous detail to your creations…but it is also super easy to use. For my project today I’m upcycling a plaster frame stand that I sourced at a local discount store in the markdown section.

Life In Color was the perfect pairing for this frame. It’s kinda “arty” so I think the mixed media supplies work so great with it.

This frame has a lovely base with additional raised areas to highlight with the wax. It’s also super heavy so there is no concern that it  might tip over.

To round out the arrangement there’s a bit of netting and twine bows. Last but not least metal gears in coordinating silver.

I took out the glass part of the frame so I could add the brick background pattern then adhere the following layers with foam spacers.  Bling is always a good for an well placed bit of sparkle. These coordinate really well so the don’t contrast with the background.

So many layers!!!! This definitely has a very dimensional look, and the wax paste does the trick in making them stand out nicely.

Here’s the process of finishing the frame….

I was able to cover it in with only 1 coat of Pentart Creamy Acrylic Metallic Paint in Graphite. Yay for 1 coat!!!! After allowing to dry I used my finger and a very light touch to add the wax to the raised areas.  Easy Peasy. So much beauty for so little work!!!

Okay that’s all for me today. Wishing everyone a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative.

Dragonfly Mixed Media Altoids Book Cover

Standard

Hey there Paper Peeps. Ginny here to share a great little mixed media project I created with the Altoids Book Cover and layers and layers of chippies from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and oodles of mixed media supplies.

What’s great about this cover is it’s like working with a mini canvas. Also is realllly thick so there’s no need to worry about sprays and paints and gels. I really went at it with every supply I had I think and it’s still nice and sturdy with absolutely no warping. To create a nice base I used some texture paste and a brick wall stencil to add dimension. After giving all the elements a coat of gesso I decided on the arrangement and glued it all in place. I used just about all my sprays and mists to create a very mottled effect. For the bloby areas I took the sprayer out of the bottle and dabbed it on for a more opaque effect.

I used the Chains & Gears Frame snipped in half to give me pieces for the front and back. These were given a layer of Steel Luxe paint.

There is an additional gear from the Steampunk Shapes Set tucked under the wing from the Dragonfly.  Itty bitty micro beads for accent and a large bling jewel.

I used some washi tape on the Altoids tin so it would be neutral and give your eye someplace to rest between all the patterns.  Before adhering the cover I added pretty dyed silk ribbon to tie a simple loopy bow.

The back has the same elements and finishes.

This is a better angle to see the layers and shimmer from the sprays.  Those leaves are from the Fanciful Elements set.

Mixed Media Dragonfly Frame

Standard

Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here to share a sweet little frame project I created with lots of great GSL chippies and loads of mixed media supplies.

Mixed Media Dragonfly Frame

Dragonfly Wall Art Mixed Media 1I found this frame with itty bitty windows and thought it would be a fun way to incorporate lots of small elements. First I took it apart and removed the glass. Then I traced where with window openings would be so I’d know where to place all the bits and pieces.  I created the background first with inks and stamps in the color scheme I wanted to use on the focal elements.Dragonfly Wall Art Mixed Media 3For added texture I layered in the Brick Wall chippie painted in flat white. Next came the Scribble Frame in black for contrast. Then the gears were painted gold and given a light coat of stain for an aged patina.

Dragonfly Wall Art Mixed Media 4The Filigree Frame was finished with the same steps as the gears then a couldn’t resist topping it off with some coordinating bling.  A few small and simple stamped sentiments are really just perfect for this size frame.Dragonfly Wall Art Mixed Media 2A generous amount of flowers to fill in this corner along with a fancy stick pin,  some altered clock hands and twine bows.  There’s also a bit of gold mesh tucked in behind.Dragonfly Wall Art Mixed Media 5I may have gotten a little carried away with this Dragonfly…..but once I was on a roll it was hard to stop. I started with a base coat of white then colored and shaded with watercolor pencils. Using archival ink I stamped on the itty bitty typography. I added a nice finished edge with a black Big Brush marker and colored in the body portion. Next I layered on additional clock hands with the same gold and stain finish as the rest of the elements and secured them with a touch of glue to hold them in place while I wrapped the wire around and added beads.  The wire did add a bit of bulk in the back…but it fits down nicely between the frame openings so it does not cause the dragonfly to stick out yay!

Orange Dragonfly Card

Standard

Hey there Peeps! Dropping in to share a project that was really inspired by how I could use my Fabulous Spectrum Noir Markers to alter and customize embellishments and trim. I colored on pretty much everything I could get my hands on and the results were amazing.

Orange Dragonfly Card 1

I used a nice variety of stamps from Crafter’s Companion to create a great background and focal images then had a good ol time coloring my embellishments to create a mixed media inspired card.

Orange Dragonfly Card 2

These paper flowers and ribbon trims were tinted with the markers. I also added some inking and glitter to the edges of the largest anchor flower to give it a little extra oomph since it’s the focal flower.

Orange Dragonfly Card 3

The pearly accents took the marker really well which surprised me because I was expecting it to smudge off….but it didn’t yay!!

Orange Dragonfly Card 4

The flowers for this small arrangement were actually white poinsettia Christmas stem flowers….they colored just fine….but the marker did soak through so if you try this…please work over layers of paper towel to absorb the excess.

Orange Dragonfly Card 5

I’m quite pleased  with the outcome of this experiment…I’ll definitely consider altering my embellishments from now to customize them for my projects!
