Sand on the Seashore Shadow Box for Lindsey

Standard

Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here with an extra special project I created as a gift for my Daughter in Law for her Birthday. The story behind this project is our first vacation we took all together after she joined our family. We went on holiday to the beach as we do for Christmas and had a wonderful time. She and I happened into a craft store and she found a little package of glass bottles and she mentioned how much she liked them. A light bulb went off and I decided right then and there to create a shadowbox for her and include a tiny bottle filled with sand from the beach from our first family trip.

I altered many chippies to embellish a recycled candy box to create the shadow box.

There’s the little jar of sand. I wrapped a bit of twine around it and added some tiny key charms.
A vintage jewelry finding was layered onto the altered chipboard for accent.

Loads of flowers to coordinate with the beachy color scheme and to disguise the structure holding the tiny sand jar. There’s a printed bible verse in the frame with a lovely sentiment to let her know how much we love her.

I created faux netting by spraying cheese cloth then twisting it in and around the flowers and inside the box.  A few little loops of roping completes the nautical embellishing.

1. Wipe down the chippies to prepare them to be altered. 2. The base is finished with a layer of flat white acrylic paint and the flourish pieces are dabbed with Distress Paint in Peacock Feathers. 3. I’m incorporating the portion of the chippies that would usually be discarded to create the front opening of the box. It’s been finished with the Distress Paint  and the snipped Deco Frame pieces are also. Using 3D Matt I adhered the flourish pieces to the frame base and allowed it to set. 4. The Deco Frame pieces are added to the box front and ready to attach to the candy box. I filled in the frame with Sugar Glitter Paste then sprinkled in 3D Powder and Micro Beads. This took quite a while to dry but well worth it!

A generous coat of Glitter Paste tops off the frame. I decided to grunge up the sides just a bit too which you can see in the finished pictures : )

Gypsy Soul Chippes~Deco Frames 6 Inch, Doodle Frame Rectangle.

Flowers from Petaloo~Botanica Magnolia Mix Blue/ Green, Mixed Textured Elements Teal, Burlap Poinsettia Teal, Botanica Vintage Velvet Mini White.

Okay that’s all for me. Wishing everyone a happy and productive day : ) G

Down by the Sea Cards for BoBunny

Standard

Hey  Peeps!  I’m coming at ya today with two very different cards made from the same paper collection.  It just really shows the versatility of Down by the Sea from BoBunny. I have 1 card that is just a bit glam chic with pinks and golds. The other card is really beachy and outdoorsy.

Greeting Card Set by Ginny Nemchak Using BoBunny Down by the Sea Collection

I think these cards would be perfect for just about any occasion.

Pink and gold together is so glam! I was inspired by the cut aparts. I’ve used the gold for matting and accents and stacked the cut-aparts to create a nice focal point.

To create these flower embellishments I stamped the floral image and added gold embossing powder. Once it was heat set I added a little Pearlecents for a really subtle bit of color and clipped it out leaving a small border. There’s a die cut doily there tucked in under the sentiment and starfish and a layered chipboard sticker on top.

I am now completely obsessed with Confetti Paste and this gold matches my project perfectly!

This is the second card and it is really cute and beachy.

With the first card, I layered the cut aparts…but this time I added stitching for a subtle detail and texture. The focal point here is the layered chipboard sticker. Pearly accents work great with the natural feel of this card, and give it a touch of an upscale underwater feel.

I’ve tucked in a smaller doily this time….but added the same confetti paste and I think it looks great on both cards.

Okay that’s all for me. Wishing all of you a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative : ) G

All or Love Vintage Beach All Occasion Greeting Card

Standard

Hey there Peeps! I’m sharing a card today with a vintage beach theme that is near and dear to my heart. Our little family loves the beach so much we spend our Christmas holiday there.  A little sand….a little surf. IHOP(for those not in America IHOP is International House of Pancakes) for Christmas dinner. What could be better?

All our Love Vintage Beached All Occasion Greeting Card

I think these warmer tones of blue and kraft adds to the vintagy effect.

The shells and sand dollars make a great accent and work well to fill in the flower arrangement.

A scribble frame in a circular shape breaks up the square edges.

Tucking in some cheesecloth gives the effect of netting…a natural choice for a beach card. I love the texture it adds and helps to fill in the arrangement.

The bow has white stitching and helps to break up the dark blue satin.

Last but not least…..some coordinating Prills to give the effect of  water.

These chippies were fun and easy to alter to coordinate with the vintage beach theme....

1. The bare chipboard was wiped down to prepare for finishing. 2. Flat white acrylic to top off the scribble frame and gold to base coat the shells and sand dollars. 3. Crackle medium is added to the sand dollars and once dry a thin coat of white acrylic. Stamping on the frame and a bit of inking. 4. Distressing the edges makes the elements pop.

Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts~ Beach Shape Set, Scribble Frames and Lines.

Petaloo Flowers~ Burlap and Canvas Collection – Mini Garden Rosettes- pl-1213-253 Satin with Stitched Center Navy

Okay that’s all for me. Wishing all of you a happy and productive day : ) G

By The Sea Mini Album

Standard

Hello there Paper Peeps…..I’m dropping in to share a mini album I created with lot’s of fabulous trims from Really Reasonable Ribbon and By the Sea Paper from Graphic 45. It also has pics of a chubby bald happy baby…..who is going to be 15 this week. So as you can image I’ve had the pictures awhile waiting for just the right paper and trim : )

IMG_3089We collected these starfish on our vacation to Daytona Beach where we took the pictures. Using them on the cover was a nice way to add mementos from our trip.  As you can see there is loads of trims on the rings: Brown Plaid , Capri Blue Diamond Satin, Turftan Brown Checkerboard Satin.. I also added some pretty little silvery seahorse charms.

IMG_3090There’s some tropical themed flowers, painted and inked chipboard embellishments, dimensional resin seashells, and trimmed elements from the By The Sea paper.

IMG_3094As you can see…I’ve layered elebenty hundred patterns….but all nicely separated by navy cardstock. I wanted to add extra tags for pics and journaling….so I created smaller pocket pages. I am loving the stamp banner held with Tim Holz metal clips.

IMG_3096These paper rosettes make the book a little bulky so I used really large binder rings.

fAs promised lot’s of pics of happy chubby bald baby : )

IMG_3098I added tags on the edges of the pages quite easily by attaching them between the paper layers. Isn’t that giant blue tropical fish cut out fabulous???? Shhhh don’t tell…it’s hiding a scratch on the picture.

IMG_3099-001I covered chipboard to make the base for the book….to support the weight of all the heavy embellishments.  This is truly a chunky album!

IMG_3100

I was lucky to have some nautical resin bits and pieces like this ships wheel….I think they make great details. I also used many trimmed pieces to bring the paper patterns onto the pictures.

Okay…I know that was a lot of pictures…..but I had so much fun reminiscing about our  trip….that I  made the book with lot’s of pages.

I hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative : ) G

The curse of a scrapbook store owner

Standard

One of the biggest challenge of owning a scrapbook store is the need to have one of every different item I order.  Like a kid in my own candy store lol. I’ve even been know to create a project to justify to myself the need to open yet another package. Take for instance this beach inspired mini album….. I really wanted to try out the Gathered Twig Distress Ink Pad from my recent order of Ranger Inks. Decided to try it out on some chipboard to see if I could get a weathered painted wood look. I kinda love it : ) I used the chipboard pieces throughout the pages for a consistent look…and I was having too much fun playing with the ink pad to stop at one piece : )

IMG_0740The chipboard frame looks a lot like an old painted dock or pier. Especially with the shabby look of all the other layers. I worked in a generous strip of Ivory Jute Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon…..the Chocolate Brown Seam Binding and Jute Natural Ribbon on the rings is too. I love the textural and natural look it adds.

IMG_0744I even added a bit of the Jute Ribbon to fluff up the flower arrangement. Flowers on masculine projects can be such a challenge. Oh and I also talked myself into opening a package of Ideology pins to give the arrangement a little height with the tiny blue star.

IMG_0743IMG_0746Each set of pages has more of the netting, and inked chipboard and a beach themed sticker. The page on the right has room for nice large pictures and a vintage inspired tab. The left page has 2 large pockets for pics and mementos and 1 large journaling tag.

IMG_0747I love love love those chipboard pieces.

IMG_0748This set of pages shows the journal tag in the back pocket. You can really add ton’s of goodies to this type of mini. I made the pages super sturdy and thick so it will hold up to lot’s of showing off.

IMG_0749IMG_0750So maybe this will keep me out of the new stock for a little while. Nah. Nearing a blog milestone here at Polly’s Paper. We will very soon be at our 600th subscriber. Yayyyy!!! Trying to think of what would make a nice giveaway gift for a contest when we get there. Anybody have any good ideas?

Hope you all enjoy a happy and productive day and find some time to be creative. G

Plans are changed….

Standard

Plans are changed with one day to spare before our family vacation to sunny Florida. Our poor little kitty baby Tinker wasn’t looking so good…so I took him to the vet and they urged me to rush him to emergency. Thankfully D.H. Kenny was able to drive us the 45 minutes it took to get to Milford to the pet hospital. The Dr. shared with us that he had a completely blocked urethra : ( literally within an hour of it being a life or death situation. Luckily Tinker pulled through his emergency procedure just fine and is resting comfortably in the vet hospital for the next three days. We will be staying here instead of going on our trip   so we can bring him home on Monday.  It just goes to show…you should always trust your instincts when it come to your pets. It would have made for a very blue Christmas if we had lost Tinker.

20121220_190232-3So now that we’re staying home I guess I should put up a tree and deck the halls a little bit for my boy’s who were really looking forward to spending Christmas day on the beach. I’ve already gotten my gift….a happy healthy furry Tinker baby : )

A mini for ME!!

Standard

I’ve been spending some time on a trip down memory lane the last few days while working on this mini album.  We take our boys to Florida every year to play on the beach. The pic’s in this book are from when they were much younger…so cute in their little swimmy trunks. One will be off to college next year and one will be in high school. How time flies : ( Some day’s I wish they were little again.

I may have gone a bit overboard on the embellishments??? Nah…it’s for me and I like it just the way it is. I anchored the corner with a nice arrangement of pretty pale flowers, Dusty Attic chipboard, buttons, leaves, resin shells and string.  I choose the beautiful burlap trim with blue stripe from Really Reasonable Ribbon for a nice strip at the top and bottom. I inked the edges and layered on some creme colored netting….seemed very nautical without being too themey.

There are quite a few elements layered on. I started with this fabulous white dot on craft brown from Simple Stories then added several die cuts, chipboard letters, vintage images, metal corners and netting with a bit of gold.

AWWWWW my little puddin pops at the beach : ) Proud Momma moment : ) Jonathan was such a little ham hock!!! The die cuts I used are from Pink Paislee.  Notice that burlap trim again? I added it to each page and used the same papers for a consistent look.

Those boy’s were sooo blonde.  As you can tell…I’m not very good about including journaling. I’m working on it I promise.

Loving these die cut letters. They match my Beach theme perfectly. Did you even notice the turtle with that chubby little bald boy in swimmy trunks in the picture? Me either : )

We spent a lot of time working out whose chair this was lol. I guess Alex decided it was better to have sand in his pants.

I’m gonna journal on this page soon…really…..you believe me…don’t you?????? LOL

It’s nice to take time to make something for myself. A way to remember the good ol days. They grow up way too fast.

I wanted to take a minute to also show off this lovely little gifty  I got in the mail at the shop. Such a sweet and generous surprise from Juanita Baker. Thank you  thank you thank you…they are so beautiful : )

She made all these pretty pins and even made a card from one of the pics I posted last spring of the tree beside my front porch : )
