When in Doubt Wing It Art Canvas

Standard

Hey Peeps! I’m sharing great little art canvas today that just flat out reminds me that you gotta keep moving forward even if you have to pretend you know what you’re doing.  Which is me pretty much most of the time lol.

Isn’t this just so sweet? I’ve hung on to this little bird image for a while waiting for just the right project and I’m so glad I did.  Love her little crown : )

There’s perfectly coordinated flowers here with twine and berries mixed in to make a lovely little arrangement.

Altered chipboard creates the base and I’ve added real vintage buttons, a metal flourish and of course a poofy bow.

This is canvas stretched on a wood frame so it’s quite dimensional. I’ve wrapped the  ribbon around to give the edges a nice finished look.

Dragonfly Wishes Home Décor Stand

Standard

Hey  Peeps! Let me just tell you that I have fallen for the Pentart Metallic Wax Paste.  Not only does it add a gorgeous detail to your creations…but it is also super easy to use. For my project today I’m upcycling a plaster frame stand that I sourced at a local discount store in the markdown section.

Life In Color was the perfect pairing for this frame. It’s kinda “arty” so I think the mixed media supplies work so great with it.

This frame has a lovely base with additional raised areas to highlight with the wax. It’s also super heavy so there is no concern that it  might tip over.

To round out the arrangement there’s a bit of netting and twine bows. Last but not least metal gears in coordinating silver.

I took out the glass part of the frame so I could add the brick background pattern then adhere the following layers with foam spacers.  Bling is always a good for an well placed bit of sparkle. These coordinate really well so the don’t contrast with the background.

So many layers!!!! This definitely has a very dimensional look, and the wax paste does the trick in making them stand out nicely.

Here’s the process of finishing the frame….

I was able to cover it in with only 1 coat of Pentart Creamy Acrylic Metallic Paint in Graphite. Yay for 1 coat!!!! After allowing to dry I used my finger and a very light touch to add the wax to the raised areas.  Easy Peasy. So much beauty for so little work!!!

Okay that’s all for me today. Wishing everyone a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative.

Ruler Frames with Vintage Art

Standard

Hey there Paper Peeps! Ginny here today to share a set of fun and easy to make frames I created with rulers!  These are fabby to display any type of vintagy and kid art. Simply measure and trim them out to the size you need and add a little stain to warm up the color. You could easily substitute a spray like Glimmer Mist or any fluid ink to customize the colors to match your project. Just make sure it’s sheer so you can see the ruler markings through it…all the measurement lines are the fun part of the frame! This is a great kid craft if you help them do the cutting.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 3I’m going for a vintagy look so I chose a pretty Vintage Photo Chalkboard and Shabby Pink digital image and printed it to the size I wanted to make the frames.  Once they were printed I adhered them to lightweight chipboard to give them some sturdiness then added the rulers.  You can finish them with an easel backing so they can be propped on a shelf or add small roping with simple knots to hang on the wall.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 1This sweet little girl has a fair few Petaloo flowers that coordinate. I thought it was important to add the cream colored Garden Rosettes to lighten up the arrangements. They also add a lovely depth.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 1-2I’m very pleased with how well the ribbon coordinates with these scrumptious flowers. The roping really helps to add texture.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 1-3More Blooms and leaves for this corner and a simple bow.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 2This image was a bit smaller and more squarish so I decided to add flowers to only the bottom corner to make it less clunky.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 2-2I added a few extra layers to this bow like the twine and vintage button.Ruler Frame Vintage Art 2-3

There’s more layers for this corner too. Along with the large dimensional flowers I added a burlap DIY flower and some Queen Anne’s Picks since they’re lacy and beautiful.

Write Memories Mixed Media Wall Hanging

Standard

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here to share a mixed media wall hanging I created with a wooden frame, chippies from Gypsy Soul and lots of sprays and textures.

Write Memories 1This project began with a recycled wooden frame. I added texture paste through a stencil and once dry I sprayed it a variety of Tattered Angels sprays.  I added the Tulip Scroll Frame painted in white to the center  to accent the focal image.

Write Memories 2

Lovely layered flowers to anchor the corner of the frame. There are also vintage buttons tucked in.

Write Memories 3To create balance I added a second arrangement to the opposite corner.

Write Memories 4With texture paste I added a subtle pattern to the background and used a Scribble Frame to accent and elevate the vintage inspired stickers and key tied with twine. A metal clip and additional buttons finish off this arrangement.

Home is Where the Heart Is. Mixed Media Wall Hanging

Standard

I was inspired to create this mixed media house collage for my BOLB Kathy Clement who just made the Graphic 45 team hooray….and also just moved into her dream home. This is to be a new studio warming gift.  I  Started with the fabby new DIY Craft paper….which is really awesome…as a base then added all the fun little details with the smaller patterned papers from a variety of the 6 x 6 paper pads.  The bright colors are from layers of gelatos and inks and outlined with artist pens to make them pop.   I created this project 3 different times…to get all the details just right…but I’m really pleased with it and happy to gift it to my dearest friend.

Journey Mixed Media Tag with Tutorial

Standard

Hey there Peeps. Well I’m recovering from a little too much holiday fun and getting myself back to the workday.  I created this tag tutorial with lots of lovely chippies and some mixed medias and ribbon and flowers.

Journey Tag 1Journey Tag 2Journey Tag 3Journey Tag 4Journey Tag 5

Please enjoy this tutorial I’ve created so you can create a tag just like this for yourself….

Prepare all pieces except the wood charm with a white base coat.

Begin layering on an additional base coat with gold paint, copper paint and black archival ink.

Add newspaper patterned paper to the back of the arch.

Add shading and contouring to the wings with Distress Ink.  Layer on pattern with text stamp and black ink.

Color back of arch with multiple shades of Gelatos. Blend well.

Coat remaining pieces with gold paint. Allow to dry. Add copper colored texture paint being aware of leaving some parts thick and some thin. Once dry dab sections with Steel Luxe paint.

Secure top of arch to base.

With glue secure a tattered piece of cheesecloth.

Clip Photo Reel in half and add to arch.

Sprinkle Micro Beads onto any glue still showing.

Sprinkle Micro Beads onto any glue still showing.

Secure wings with middles touching.

Layer on pocket watch, gears and key.

Add a variety of flowers in coordinating colors.

Finish tag with wood charm sentiment and tie off ribbon trim with twine.

Okay that’s all for me. I hope I’ve inspired you to create a mixed media tag of your own. Wishing you all a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative : ) G
