Cherished Baby Card

Standard

Hey there Peeps. I’m just dropping in to share a card I created for a new friend for a baby shower. The gender of the baby is to be a surprise so this card will work great for a boy or girl.

Cherish Baby Card 1

I used the Scribble Frames Hearts & Flowers layered over a combination of plaid patterned papers is soft colors anchored with a warm brown with polka dots. The Cherish sentiment is from the Words & Phrases 1.

Cherish Baby Card 2

There’s a die cut doily in crisp white to coordinate with the frame and sentiment and to balance the darker colors.

Adding spacers between the layers really adds depth.

Pretty flowers, chevron ribbon bow and twine are a lovely addition to this card. Maybe the new Mom will display it in the nursery.

The inside is finished with coordinating papers and ready for a sweet sentiment.

Simple Stories / Petaloo Blog Hop

Standard

Well hey there Peeps. Such a fun day for me to be sharing  the projects I created as guest designer  for May. I made these  specially for the Simple Stories / Petaloo Blog Hop.   When I say I love the papers and flower selection I mean I REALLY REALLY LOVE IT!!!  We have had the most brutal seeming to never end winter here in Michigan….in fact it was snowing last week. Today is 87 and my heart is singing!!! These Simple Stories Lines are just too perfect for this time of year with their bright cheery colors and fun whimsical patterns. And the Petaloo flowers are the perfect finishing touch to my projects.

First Project…Sunshine & Happiness Card:

Sunshine and HAppiness Card Petaloo Simple Stories 1

This card was soo much fun to create. It really did bring me sunshine and happiness.

Sunshine & Happiness Card Simple Stories Petaloo 2

I selected a variety of the Petaloo flowers to coordinate with the paper patterns.

Sunshine & Happiness Card Simple Stories Petaloo 3

Layering the chipboard stickers allowed me to add quite a few in such a small space. Adding spacers is the key to keeping everything level.  Have to save room for flowers! A simple not too poofy bow in a coordinating raspberry help to anchor the top corner along with the die cut frame.

While I had the Sunshine & Happiness Collection out I created a tag also….

Yummy Ice Cream Tag Petaloo Simple Stories 1

I used similar layering techniques for this tag but instead of using the chipboard I went with the regular stickers and combined the with the cut apart pages, more diecuts, and of course gorgeous Petaloo flowers.

Two smaller arrangements work well for this size tag.  I’ve also added a more subtly patterned ribbon.

Incorporating a pretty die cut doily in clean crisp white helps to separate some of the busy patterns. Adding spacers between the layers adds depth and give me th opportunity to tuck in some of the blooms.

Retro Inspired Display for Vintage Camper

Standard

Hey there peeps! Well today I’m sharing a project with a bit of a story behind it. Last year our family purchased a retro camper. A 1966 Banner to be exact. I can tell you it’s been a real family project and labor of love to bring it back to life and we’ve been able to take it out for mini vacations, which is so awesome to get out in nature with the peeps.  Our theme for the camper has been retro 50’s diner. That’s a theme right? So we have been adding crisp white paint….aqua accents and chrome and lots of vintage inspired décor items. I created this little display hutch to hold a collection of small ceramics.

Camper Display Shelf 1

I super love the colors and retro patterned papers on the back of this hutch. I created the base with the fabulous Split Front Box.  Instead of assembling it to be a closable box…I secured the lid portion to the sides and treated it as a fixed unit.  I should note that I added a layer of thick chipboard to the back as well to help secure the sections.

Camper Display Shelf 2

Aqua and red are the colors and lightened  up with some crisp white.  I used regular acrylic paint which covered beautifully.   I’ve also included fun cork covered clips to secure postcards or smaller mementos.  The funky polka dot ribbon and birdie brads are a fun finishing touch.

Camper Display Shelf 3

This center box portion is nice and deep and I can add my new collection without worry that things will stick out and possibly get knocked over.

 Camper Display Shelf 4
The first addition to the collection came as a surprise gifty from my very lovely and generous friend Linsey Rickett. I love them so much they inspired me search for more vintage themed memorabilia. Camper Display Shelf 5
I couldn’t ask for a better color match and this just makes me all kinds of happy!!!!
retrocamper
Here is our little camper. I’m not sure we would have jumped into this project had we known in advance how much work it would wind up being. LOL but now we have a great little home away from home to make family memories in.   I should mention that my dear Hubby has done soooooo much to reframe the inside and build in new bunks and storage to adapt this little camper to meet the needs of how our family likes to live. The outside was painted by the previous owner in multiple shades of taupe and brown house paint…what were they thinking????? So my big project last summer was to scrape and sand all the old stuff off and now we have a super bright and cheerful and very retro home on wheels. I can’t wait to hang the new hutch inside!!!

Okay that was a long post for me huh???? Anyhoo..I’m wishing all of you a happy and productive day with lots of time to be creative : ) G

Father’s Day Card with Graphic 45

Standard

Masculine cards can be a challenge….but why not give them the layers and embellishments you would add to a feminine card?  For this Father’s Day card I mixed up the vintagy golf focal image and layered it in with graphic patterns from Communique and 2 different blues from A Ladies’ Diary.  Masculine inspired chippies and wood sentiment finish it off perfectly.

Write Memories Mixed Media Wall Hanging

Standard

Hey there Peeps! Ginny here to share a mixed media wall hanging I created with a wooden frame, chippies from Gypsy Soul and lots of sprays and textures.

Write Memories 1This project began with a recycled wooden frame. I added texture paste through a stencil and once dry I sprayed it a variety of Tattered Angels sprays.  I added the Tulip Scroll Frame painted in white to the center  to accent the focal image.

Write Memories 2

Lovely layered flowers to anchor the corner of the frame. There are also vintage buttons tucked in.

Write Memories 3To create balance I added a second arrangement to the opposite corner.

Write Memories 4With texture paste I added a subtle pattern to the background and used a Scribble Frame to accent and elevate the vintage inspired stickers and key tied with twine. A metal clip and additional buttons finish off this arrangement.

Tattered Angels Sprays~Suede, Walnut Gold, Sunflower, Iridescent Gold.

Get Your Happy Dad’s Day On Mini & Guest Design for Petaloo

Standard

Hey there paper Peeps! It’s Ginny here and I am really really really excited to be sharing my first project as guest designer at Petaloo for May.  I’ve created a fun and festive mini album with  Father’s Day as my inspiration.  I think a mini scrapbook filled with pictures and loads of memories journaled on the tags is such a thoughtful and very personal gift. It can even hold gift cards in the pockets in case you want to take it up a notch. Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 1

OMGosh these little gnomes from Simple Stories are so dang cute. I super love all the patterns and images from this collection.  I chose to use a spiral binding for this album so it could hold bulkier embellishments like the chipboard stickers. I’ve even tucked in a few flowers throughout the pages and I wouldn’t want them to get smooshed.

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 2These Petaloo flowers really coordinate perfectly with the patterned papers and help to anchor the corner of the book. I layered many shapes and sizes and worked in some fabby Blueberry Picks. Leaves and tiny loopy twine bows fill in this arrangement and the chipboard bees on springs adds a very whimsical touch.

Using a punch I added an accent to the yellow checkered paper banner that’s tucked into to collage.  The Enamel Dots are a fun alternative to buttons and since they come with the Bloom & Grow collection I know they match perfectly.

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 4The base of this book is constructed out of sturdy chipboard so it would hold up to lots of admiring and page flipping. Dad’s gonna want to show off all his little Peeps!

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 5

I used ribbon trims to decorate the spiral binding. I found colors that matched the funky little chipboard stickers.  Just one per spiral though so it won’t interfere with the book opening.

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 6Several sets of the inside pages have pockets to add tags and memorabilia. To keep a consistent look I worked the wood grain pattern running throughout the book.

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 7Solid colored cardstock borders and matting helps to make the pockets and tags more sturdy and keeps the busy patterns from running together.

Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 8

I turned this gnome line up on it’s side to create  pockets on the outside of the pages. It was so much better than having them only on the bottom of the page and allows of bigger tags to be inserted.Get Your Happy Dads Day On Mini Album Petaloo Simple Stories 9

The last set of pages has no pockets to allow for bigger pictures…or maybe a handwritten note from the kiddos.

Okay that’s it for my first project for May. I hope you enjoyed viewing it as much as I enjoyed creating it!
